Phone contact

weekend counselling 0413 396 722

Recently the service phone has been unable to work properly thanks to Optus.

So it is with sincere regret that I have been unable to return any messages. I hope that if you have experienced this difficulty in trying to get an appointment that you contact again using the contact form so you will receive a call back to arrange an appointment time.

I would also like to let all the GP Doctors know that this service has not received any of the referrals that had been sent to the fax number due to another service picking them up. Please give the client the referral letter and mental health plan so they can make contact directly or provide your contact details in the contact form so that you can be called back.

Mindfulness and Self-Compassion

Mindfulness is a practice that has its orgins from Zen practices. It is now an accepted part of Mental Health Therapies such as Dialectical Behavioural Therapies.

Everything Matters

A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.
― Albert Einstein

Letting go: the ecstasy of surrender

Check out this great video reminds me of mindfulness practice of staying in the moment.

Everything Matters

“Trust the moment. It might not be what you thought, but it is what is.”

Surrender is another way of saying accepting what is in this moment since there isn’t much you can do with most of it. I have a collection of posts that consider this idea and practice here on Beyond Meds.

I really like and resonate strongly with the concept of surrender. I’d say it’s one of my central practices now. I find the description in the above video a bit lacking but I’m also not coming up with a better way to talk about it right now so it’s all I’m going to share right now.

I’m also going to cut and paste a short post I wrote in May of this year again too, because the idea of surrender has become critical. The healing process from the iatrogenic injury is so often so…

Sweet song: Saturday Mellow

Lovely music and lyrics to uplift your mood.

Everything Matters

In my heart I’ve got nothing to hide…

That’s all…just a sweet song for this Saturday.

diegoWalking away, now I got nothing to say
You got me so down
It seems like you know, what I’m been trying to show
You know what I found

People can talk, will this ever stop?
How can you stand this?
Come over here, you know the skies all be clear
Right from the first kiss

In my heart
I got nothing to hide

It’s hard to move on when the feelings are gone
You know that love fades

In my heart
I got nothing to hide
In my heart
I got nothing…

Baby!
You know the skies will be clear
And, Baby!
Oh, how I wish you were here!

“Soul Repair” And Veterans Of Trauma

Veterans of Trauma do complete their journeys in recovery. As individuals learn what their triggers are they also are able to develop coping ways to deal with these situations effectively.

Everything Matters

By Laura K. Kerr

A program called The Soul Repair Center at Brite Divinity School in Fort Worth, Texas studies the moral injuries of combat. The Center’s members believe a moral injury happens to warriors when they must make decisions during combat that oppose their moral convictions. Their website shares the following description of the moral injuries of war:

“Moral injury is perpetrating, failing to prevent, bearing witness to, or learning about acts that transgress deeply held moral beliefs and expectations. This may entail participating in or witnessing inhumane or cruel actions, failing to prevent the immoral acts of others, as well as engaging in subtle acts or experiencing reactions that, upon reflection, transgress a moral code.” [Brett Litz, et al. “Moral Injury and Moral Repair in War Veterans: A Preliminary Model and Intervention Strategy.” Clinical Psychology Review 29, no. 8 (2009): 695-706.]

This definition of moral injury is…
